Oil companies rank high on website index PDF Print E-mail

Oil companies have once more held their own in this year's Financial Times Bowen Craggs website index, a service that evaluates the effectiveness of corporate websites.  BP is once more among the highest, achieving second place for the second year; Shell has dropped to eighth position and Chevron ranks twenty fifth out of the full index of 75 companies.

With the Western corner holding its own and out to impress, the gap between Western and Eastern sites from around the globe is widening.  The index commends those sites pushing the boundaries of the web, experimenting with social media and exploiting broadband technologies.  The bad news comes from the Russian and Chinese groups, dominating the bottom end of the index, these sites are struggling to maintain a global presence.  This large gap in website estate, the index believes is down to the attitude of senior management; those managers utilising the web as a fundamental communication channel have once more, come out on top.

With oil companies featuring twice in the top ten globally, and featuring six times in the top fifty the oil industry appears to be holding its own during dark times.  View the full list.
